Optimizing Digital Platforms and Data Analytics Technology to Enhance Peer Counseling Effectiveness in Mitigating Academic Stress

Abstract:
This study examines the optimization of digital platforms and data analytics technologies in peer counseling to address the limitations of traditional counseling services. A qualitative descriptive method, supported by a SWOT analysis, was employed to examine the internal and external factors influencing the effectiveness of IT-based peer counseling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with 45 participants, including peer counselors, students, and academic counseling practitioners, who were purposively selected from 15 State Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia. Thematic analysis was employed to process the qualitative data, supported by frequency-based interpretations. Notably, 80% of students reported improved access and engagement through digital platforms, while 67% of peer counselors highlighted increased confidence resulting from virtual training. The findings reveal that enhancing technical capacity, integrating platforms with institutional systems, and improving digital literacy and data protection policies are key to the sustainable implementation of IT-based peer counseling to reduce academic stress.
