Trends and Challenges of Foreign Trade of the Slovak Republic: Analysis of the Current State and Perspectives

Abstract:
Foreign trade represents a key component of national economic performance, with numerous studies emphasizing its role in enhancing competitiveness, economic growth, and resource efficiency. The literature highlights that while some countries maintain a surplus of goods or raw materials and engage in extensive exports, others rely heavily on imports due to limited domestic production capacities. In that case, it is a positive export. At the same time, however, there are also countries on the foreign trade market that cannot be sufficiently self-sufficient and thus depend on the import of goods and raw materials from other countries. The fact whether a country is presented more by exports or imports can be analyzed through the balance of foreign trade. However, there are many other indicators in foreign trade, such as turnover, Index RCA (Revealed comparative advantage), or the Michaely index, whose purpose is to analyze foreign trade within a given country. The aim of the contribution is to approximate and characterize various indicators of foreign trade and the subsequent application and analysis of selected indicators within the Slovak Republic during the period 2022 – 2010.
