From Competency to Performance: The Role of Islamic Entrepreneurial Orientation and Dynamic Capabilities in Halal Community Enterprises in Southern Thailand

Abstract:
This study analyzes the relationship between entrepreneurial competency (EC) and Islamic entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) and their impact on halal enterprise performance (HEP), with dynamic capabilities (DC) acting as a mediating construct. Grounded in Dynamic Capabilities Theory and the concept of IEO, the research reflects the religious and cultural context of halal community-based enterprises. A quantitative approach was employed using data from 280 halal entrepreneurs in Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, Thailand. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) via LISREL was used for analysis. Results show that both EC and IEO significantly impact DC and HEP, with DC mediating the relationships. The model demonstrated a good level of fit with the empirical data. These results highlight the importance of integrating entrepreneurial competencies with Islamic values to enhance sustainable enterprise performance. The study contributes to the literature by linking strategic management perspectives with Islamic entrepreneurship and provides practical implications for policymakers aiming to support value-driven capacity development in culturally sensitive contexts.
