Abstract:

The integration of technology and assessment in learning has the potential to optimize student learning outcomes. This study examines articles on technology and assessment in learning to identify the opportunities and challenges of integrating them into learning. A systematic review approach was used to review 44 selected articles. The systematic review found that incorporating technology and assessment into education has been accelerated. Some of the opportunities that teachers have when integrating technology and assessment in the classroom are to provide better formative feedback, to create more interactive and adaptive assessments, to add value to tests and assignments, to raise the effectiveness and efficiency of assessments. However, there are still several barriers that educators and learners have to overcome when trying to integrate technology and assessment. Other pedagogical and contextual issues include technical limitations, assessment design, teacher and learner preparedness, ethics and equity, ongoing adaptation, and teacher competence. The opportunities and challenges identified can be used as a basis for implementing the integration of technology and assessment in learning.
