Resilience to Natural Disasters in Communities: A Literature Review

Abstract:
Resilience is understood as the ability to overcome adverse events; therefore, catastrophe hazard decreases plans have paid consideration to communal resilience in recent decades because populations are extensively documented as the first community components disturbed and that respond when a natural catastrophe occurs. This paper reviews the literature using Biblioshiny to identify definitions, areas of study, and variables for measuring resilience from articles with the highest citations in the Scopus database. The search conducted shows that most authors agree on dimensions such as communal, monetary, communal investment, institutional, infrastructure, and ecological, while the variables that comprise each dimension are diverse, of which nearly two hundred have been counted. Among them, some are related and/or complementary, while others are different. By presenting these variables, this study aims to help public and/or private institutions consider them when developing the capacities of the local people.
