Abstract:
A significant milestone for kindergartens in Slovakia was the year 2021, when the obligation to complete pre-primary education was enshrined in legislation. This change brought new challenges in the field of management, which are reflected in increased demands on kindergarten principals, not only in the pedagogical, but also in the legal, economic and personnel areas. The aim of the presented paper is to identify problematic areas of management in kindergartens from the perspective of principals and to analyse factors that affect the effectiveness of their managerial activities. The authors devote themselves to a comprehensive analysis of the current state of kindergarten management in Slovakia, focusing on selected aspects, including the specifics of the organization of pre-primary education, requirements for kindergarten principals, the legislative framework, as well as necessary managerial competencies. The research findings point to the need for systematic support for principals through further education, mentoring and optimization of management processes. In conclusion, recommendations are formulated for improving the quality of kindergarten management, with an emphasis on connecting theory with practice and developing the leadership skills of principals.
