Enhancing Industrial Work Culture through Vocational Training for Future Manufacturing Workers

Abstract:

 

Industrial work culture is a fundamental behavioral competency that directly influences safety, productivity, and continuous improvement in manufacturing. However, most vocational training programs still prioritize technical skills, often overlooking the systematic development of workplace behavior. This study examines the effectiveness of the Habituation of Industrial Culture Highly Intensive (HAICHI) training model in fostering work behavior of 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), and improving Kaizen behavior. This study used a quasi-experimental post-test-only control group design involving 36 students enrolled in a vocational bachelor’s program in mechanical engineering, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Behavioral data were collected through structured observations during workshop practice and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The results showed that students trained with HAICHI achieved significantly higher scores in all domains compared to students who attended regular project-based training. These findings highlight the value of behavior-focused training in improving vocational learning outcomes. The HAICHI model shows strong potential for integration into vocational curricula and new employee orientation to align education with industry demands. The HAICHI model offers strong potential for broader application in manufacturing-related training programs and can be systematically integrated into vocational curricula to promote workplace readiness and cultural alignment.
