Abstract:
Cars parked in sunny locations are frequently exposed to direct sunlight, which increases cabin temperature. This study developed a prototype measuring tool to investigate increases in carbon monoxide (CO) concentration and ambient temperature inside car cabins, with case implementation in parked cars in the Universitas Negeri Padang area. Temperature sensors and CO detectors were installed to record in cabin temperature and CO levels at various time intervals during the parking period. The results showed that the prototype identified a relationship between longer sun exposure and higher cabin temperature and CO concentration. In-cabin temperatures exceeded 61.17°C and CO concentrations reached 18.67 ppm, both potentially harmful to health. The study highlights the need to raise awareness of these health risks and to apply mitigation measures such as using sun visors or parking in shaded areas.
